Obesity CausesGlobal Warming

The list of ills attributableto obesity keeps growing. Last week,obese people were accused of causing

global warming.

This conclusioncomes from Sheldon Jacobson of the University of Illinois,US,and adoctoral student,

Laura McLay.Theirstudy calculates how much extra gasoline is needed to haul fat Americansaround.The

answer,they say,is abillion gallons of gas per year._________(46)

US political scientist Eric Oliver said hisfirst instinct was to laugh at these gas and fast food arguments.

But such claims aregetting attention.

At the US ObesitySociety's annual meeting,one person correlated obesity with car accidentdeaths,and

In a 1960sstudy,children were shown drawings of children with disabilities and withoutthem,and a

Three researchersrecently repeated the study using college students.Once again,almost no one,not

even obesepeople,liked the obese person."Obesity was stigmatized,"theresearchers said.

But,researcherssay,getting thin is not like quitting smoking.People struggle to stopsmoking,and,in
